Fall of Icarus is a time-based installation exploring personal and public memory in relation to the changing politics and stature of Washington, DC. Steel frames, hung vertically on fishing line from the ceiling, encase images printed on water-soluble embroidery fabric. Above the images, steel netting holds up a handful of ice cubes. The ice melts, the images dissolve, the steel rusts, but the structure remains.
I sourced the cropped images in the frames from my personal archive, pictures I took on my phone of the Washington Monument; the top two I took while living in DC, the bottom two while visiting as a tourist before and after my time there.
